Steering Wheel Controls Project

This project aims to develop the steering wheel mounted controls/button for the MX-5e and OSSEV®. The plan is for the controls to be split across the two sides of the steering wheel:

Requirements

  1. The controls must be intuitive and provide a positive feel and haptic feedback.
  2. The controls must be back-lit and be legible during the day and also at night.
  3. The controls will be interfaced to the CAN Bus.
Note: Whilst are developing the buttons for the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), we currently have no plans to add this feature to the MX-5e. There are also no plans to provide steering wheels controls for smartphone based communications as these will be exposed via the entertainments screen.

Design

The design is currently under development. The assumption is that the controls will be interface via Arduino open-source hardware, to enable both simple and advanced features, such as software debouncing, 'press and hold' functionality, etc.
